Description
This training is intended to support clinicians and other healthcare professionals who work with patients misusing stimulant drugs despite receiving treatment and/or medication-assisted treatment (MAT). The training will focus on the benefits and limitations of MAT with buprenorphine. There are times when MAT users will have their opioid use "under control" but choose to start using another class of drugs at the same time. The reasons for this "switch" are many and varied, and they will be discussed along with some ways to "fix" this issue. Focus will be on cocaine and methamphetamines as the "switch drugs." The physical and emotional issues involved with this can have very negative consequences that are difficult to overcome. The major effects and side effects of these drug classes will also be explained.
Objectives
Upon completion of this training, participants will:
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of the benefits and limitations of MAT
- Increase their knowledge and understanding of the physical and emotional effects that cocaine and methamphetamine can have on a person
