SC SBIRT Motivational Interviewing Booster Training

Who Should Attend

Staff who are employed by a county alcohol and drug abuse authority or a designated hospital

REGISTRATION IS LIMITED TO 20 PARTICIPANTS.

Description

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication with particular attention to the language of change. It is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring a person’s reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.

Objectives

  1. Discuss the core competencies of MI skills.
  2. Objectively assess “sticking points” and strategize to ameliorate.
  3. Describe 10 strategies for eliciting change-talk.
  4. Demonstrate the utility of Brief Negotiation Interviewing.
