Who Should Attend
People in recovery who are interested in becoming a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) / Recovery Coach
Prerequisites
- High school diploma, GED, or higher education
- In recovery for a minimum of two years from a substance use disorder (alcohol and/or other drugs)
- A minimum of two written paragraphs outlining your lived recovery and practical experience, including your recovery philosophy
- Two letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your recovery experience
- Interview with Kori Criddle, Director of Intervention Services
Description
The Peer Connection Academy provides a 46-hour training that validates participants' desire to share some of their personal experiences, direct others to multiple pathways to recovery, and provide information about resources and services so that others can be encouraged to engage in their own personal wellness and recovery.
Objectives
- Learn the roles and functions of a CPSS / Recovery Coach
- Build skills to enhance relationships
- Discuss co-occurring disorders and medication-assisted recovery
- Describe stages of change and their applications
- Address ethical issues and experience wellness planning
- Practice skills and documentation training
