Job Description:
Entry-level Peer Support Specialist position provides recovery services in an office-based setting to individuals referred by the Sumter County Sherriff’s Office in Project LEAD.

Job Responsibilities:
• Provides peer support for individuals and groups in detention center.
• Provides recovery education to inmates for every phase of the recovery journey, from pre-recovery engagement to recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance.
• Provides a model for both inmates who are struggling with recovery and staff members by demonstrating that recovery is possible.
• Assists inmates in identifying their personal interests, goals, strengths, and weaknesses regarding recovery.
• Promotes self-advocacy by assisting inmates in recovery in having their voices heard and their needs, goals, and objectives established as the focal point of rehabilitation and clinical services.
• Actively identifies and supports linkages to community resources (communities of recovery, educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self-help groups, professional services, etc.) that support the recovering person's goals and interests. This will involve a collaborative effort including the recovering person, agency staff, and other relevant stakeholders.
• Follows up with clients after they are released from detention to ensure that no barriers will impact outpatient treatment services.
• Assists supervisor in collecting outcome data.
• Abides by all agency, state, federal, and regulatory bodies' guidelines regarding confidentiality.
• Participates in staffing to address strengths and/or barriers of inmates served.

Required Qualifications:
• High school diploma.
• Two years in recovery from a substance use disorder and a willingness to self-identify as a person in recovery.
• Must take and pass the Certified Peer Support Specialist certification exam.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Related work experience.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications
